Rachel Irvine Schmidt
RACHEL IRVINE SCHMIDT

Tutor

Rachel has been working on the peninsula as a teacher and as a private tutor since 1996. She holds a double major BA degree in both Liberal Studies and in Spanish. Additionally, she has three teaching credentials including her Bilingual Elementary Education (BCLAD), a single subject Spanish credential and an administrative credential. Rachel has also earned her Masters Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision. Rachel works daily with students, as well as with her tutors, to ensure academic success. Rachel tutors all elementary levels, Spanish through high school and organizational and study strategies. In Rachel's spare time, she is always with her family and enjoys travel, adventure, reading and going for walks.

LAURA

Test Prep Tutor

Laura is a graduate of York School and a Salinas resident. After high school, she attended the United States Military Academy at West Point for two years as a Mathematical Sciences and Computer Science double major. She resigned from USMA this last fall and is currently applying to transfer to another school in Fall 2020 where she can continue to pursue her interests in computer science, math, and problem solving. Growing up Laura was an avid soccer player and at USMA she was a rower on the crew team. Currently she has been training for her first marathon! Laura likes to spend her free time reading, working out, and playing with her dogs. When she is tutoring, she enjoys reframing problems into more comprehensible forms and helping students realize that their goals are achievable. Laura loves seeing her students build confidence as they retain and build upon the information and strategies they discuss over the course of their sessions. Laura has students of all ages, from elementary to college, and she is able to tutor all subjects.

ANDREW

Andrew graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2019 and is currently attending the Naval Postgraduate School to obtain his master's degree in Astronautical Engineering. He had studied everything from satellite design to materials science and loves everything related to space. After graduation, he will head to flight school in Pensacola, Florida for pilot training. He hopes to fly jets. Andrew likes to hike, fish, and ski in his free time and California is perfect for all of that! He really enjoys helping those he tutors understand the importance of math and science in the real world and how it can be applied to important problems. Andrew is qualified to tutor not only all levels of math and science but English, history and all college entrance exams (ACT, SAT and SAT II).

CLINT

Office Manager

Clint has been teaching with Bright Horizons for nine years and has earned a very loyal following of students who both enjoy and thrive under his guidance. Clint spent five years in the Air Force and then went on to earn two associate degrees in mathematics and physics from Monterey Peninsula College . Clint is currently applying to California State University, Monterey Bay for his mathematics teaching credential. Clint has a unique way of connecting with his students. He is truly interested in each student's personality, learning style and goals. He thinks it is important to build the student's trust and confidence in order to have increased academic success. Clint tutors students of all ages, ranging from elementary aged students to adult professionals. He primarily tutors every level of math and all the sciences, as well as middle school subjects. Clint enjoys reading, hiking, math, camping, and playing video games.

LANDON

Test Prep Tutor

Landon is both a student and an educator. He is primarily interested in sciences and mathematics, however, he finds fascination in behavioral sciences as well as language. Landon discovered a hidden love for mathematics, with a little help from physics, and finds fascination in discovering the interconnections of everything in the world around him. Soon to have an associate of science in engineering from Monterey Peninsula College, he has also has received a certificate of completion for his Japanese courses. Landon tutors all subjects but has a love for math and science. When Landon isn't tutoring, he enjoys being outside, training for races, as well as gardening.

Test Prep Tutor

Ling is a proud graduate of Cal (Go Bears!). She majored in History but also has extensive experience with Political Science and Integrative Biology. Ling has been with the Bright Horizons team since 2013 specializing in subjects related to English and Social Science (especially history) and the English/Reading/Essay sections of all the standardized tests (ACT/SAT/pSAT, etc.). She loves connecting with her students and seeing them flourish. When not in the office, Ling can be found hiking Garland Park, driving down to Big Sur, cheering on her Cal Bears, winning her Fantasy Football matches or in a yoga class. She's currently looking to join a pub trivia team and getting through her large stack of books sitting on her nightstand.
